Turkey Sloppy Joes

There is just something about a good sloppy joe. I love ’em and I bet many of you do too. Here is a healthier option for you. A pretty easy recipe for some ground turkey sloppy joes.

Ingredients for Turkey Sloppy Joes

1 pound lean ground turkey
1/2 onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 jalapeno, minced
1 red pepper, diced
1 1/2 cups no-salt-added/low sugar tomato sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon mustard powder
3/4 teaspoon Pink Himalayan Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
8 whole-wheat sandwich thins or buns

Preparing the Turkey Sloppy Joes

Brown the meat and the onion together in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, breaking up the meat into crumbles as it cooks. Strain out whatever drippings from the pan and discard. Add the garlic, jalapeno, and red pepper and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the rest of the ingredients, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 5 minutes. Toast the sandwich thins or buns and spoon onto each bun and serve.
